Who We Are

Hickory Neck Episcopal Church

We are a group of dedicated individuals passionate about serving the Lord.

We as Christians believe that God is alive and well and active in our day-to-day lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Our faith is rooted in the Word of God (the Holy Scriptures), in the historic creeds of Christendom, and in the witness of men and women throughout all ages.  We believe that prayer and worship are the central activities of the Christian life and that it is a sacred responsibility of all Christians to join in regular corporate celebrations of the faith.

Our Values

We are here for you!

Our Life Together

In the baptismal covenant, we promise to continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers.

We Are All Human

We are all bound to fail.  And so we promise to persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever we fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord.

Christ's Commission for Us

We promise to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ.  It’s not just the clergy’s job!

Our Mission and Work

Our life’s work, in our various vocations and stages of life, is to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves.

Our Commitment

We promise to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.

What Should I Expect?

Come as you are

We want you to come just as you are.  When you walk through our doors you may see people in suits and ties, but you will also see people in jeans and t-shirts.  We want to make sure when you visit you are comfortable and that is all that matters to us.  As long you come through our doors, we want to make sure you feel loved and welcomed.  If you ever need anything, always feel free to connect with us.  We love to hear from our new visitors.

Our Team

Get to know the Hickory Neck Episcopal Church staff

Worship, spiritual direction, pastoral care, and Christian formation are primary responsibilities of our priests.  In addition, all baptized persons are ministers in the Church and we enjoy a strong partnership between ordained and lay persons at Hickory Neck.  This passion for leadership thrives in our Vestry as well.

Jennifer Andrews-Weckerly / Rector

Mother Jennifer has been with us as our Rector since April 2016.  She is looking forward to a bright future with the Hickory Neck family.  She is married to her wonderful husband Scott and has 2 lively daughters, Simone and Cana.

Bob Gay /

Bob was a member of Hickory Neck when he discerned his call to ordination. After serving other parishes and retiring, he felt called to leave retirement and serve the community once again. Bob is especially interested in helping people discern and affirm their vocation – whether professionally, within the Church, or out in the world.

Sarah Bland /

Minister of Music

Sarah has been with Hickory Neck since the summer of 2013.   As Minister of Music, she brings a passion for music as an expression of faith in our spiritual life at Hickory Neck.

Robin J. Axness /

Parish Administrator

Robin Axness joins Hickory Neck Church as the Parish and Communications Administrator.  She moved to Williamsburg two years ago and has been working as a marketing and development consultant for a local nonprofit. Back in her hometown in Connecticut, Robin was very active at her church serving on various committees and is a Stephen Minister.

The vestry is composed of the Rector and a group of elected parishioners who administer the temporal affairs of the parish. Vestry meetings are held in the Wilkinson Center at 7:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
