Acolytes' Duties

The acolytes' duties during the worship service include lighting the altar candles, carrying the processional cross, holding the cross during the Gospel reading, helping the priest in preparing for communion at the altar, handing the offering plates to the ushers, and many other tasks as seen fit by the priest.

An alb is worn by the acolytes, with a twisted rope with knots on the end which is secured round the waist.  Reversible vests showing the color for the season of the liturgical calendar are also worn.
